Announcing Your Journey To SavvyTM - A Guided Group Learning Program at Home to Advance Your Parelli Journey.

Learn * Experience * Share * Achieve * Celebrate

This program was designed to answer many of my students’ and my own challenges with learning the Parelli program at home.  Many of us feel the need to break through the feeling of isolation, have fun, stay progressive, keep the motivation alive and find ways to continue advancing despite weather, facility or time constraints.  The program will provide accountability and consistency, which are key to reaching your horsemanship objectives.  It is built to help you stay focused, stay on track, spark your imagination and inspire new ideas through regular homework, consistent help and support from a Licensed Parelli Professional, as well as opportunities to connect, share and celebrate your achievements with other members of the group.

Starts January 1st, 2015

La formation comprend généralement un exposé, des exercices et des jeux, ainsi qu'une période de questions. Une démonstration avec cheval aura lieu aux ateliers qui se tiendront à Havelock cet automne.

A day in the life on the farm... Every creature seeks a connection, naturally!

Life on the farm...

Meet Kevin. Kevin is the lone surviving guinea hen from a group that used to live here. Since I have arrived, he has fallen in love with his reflection in my truck and trailer hub caps and spends hours looking at himself, talking to it and takes naps next to the wheels.
Kevin has also discovered I feed my horses really great stuff. He used to come into the pen to pick at the manure, but now he actually waits for me at feeding time and literally gets in between the horses' legs to steal bits falling from the buckets. When I change my feeding time, which happens regularly, and he misses it, he gets very angry and stands in front of the pen area screaming, and trust me, he is very loud! My horses don't seem to mind him at all, they don't even push him out of the way, although Menina drives him once in a while, just for fun (without touching him, just on his bubble). With all the great feed Kevin is getting, he has turned into a supercharged guinea! I am secretly he is going to start laying eggs for breakfast....

About Menina... this is where she stands every morning when I get up, right outside my trailer window.  I bet she would be in the trailer if there was any way to let herself in.  When  she hear me open the blinds, she looks at me and greets me with two eyes and ears.   I had to sneak so she would not notice me for this picture.  The other two stand by the gate that I use to bring in the hay.  How interesting...

The Parelli Education Institute, helping to make the world a better place for horses and the humans that love them

A Few Words from Seth Burgess, Your New Team Coordinator

The Parelli Education Institute has a new customer coordinator, and I had to share this great post where Seth very effectively summarizes what Parelli and the Institute are all about, from the horse's mouth!

We equines instinctively know that if we separate ourselves from the herd, we’ll die!  That’s why we work so closely together.  We’ve been trying to get our message across to humans for centuries. The problem with you humans is you spend too much time obsessing about right and wrong and separating yourselves from the herd by judging and condemning each other.  If we did that we’d be dead!
We are so thankful that Parelli is getting our message out.  Be strong enough to stand alone, be yourself enough to stand apart, but be wise enough to stand together when the time comes.
Welcome to the team, Seth!

If you are heading out to Pagosa Springs, Colorado for any of this summer's courses on campus, Seth will be there to greet you and help you every step of the way.
The Parelli Education Institute is part of something big.  You folks are serious about making the world a better place for horses and humans, you have a great team that knows how to work together, you have wonderful supporters, AND you are Parelli because it WORKS!

The long road to Florida to ride with Linda Parelli....

Here we are, I have finally arrived in Florida, after weeks of agonizing preparations and delays due to my horse Menina suffering a severe injury on a wire fence.  We finally got the vet's clearance to travel, and off we went.  For more info on that particular mishap, check out my Facebook page www.facebook.com/parelliqc

We got here, not without a few issues on the way South, many of which were related to the extreme temperatures.  I left in -40C weather, everything was frozen, including all locks and doors on the trailer.  The horses got no traction on the rubber mats in the trailer in this cold and were slipping and sliding trying to find their footing to get on - hard to persuade them it is safe to load in this case... and it got to the point where I was very worried they would get hurt trying.  We left Quebec two hours later than planned.

Everything in the trailer froze solid - food, water, etc.  I had to feed myself with what could fit in my cooler in the truck and discovered that hard boiled eggs can be eaten even when frozen....  Thank goodness for peanuts, granola bars and yogurt, who withstand this type of temperature quite well....

Then we had to wait over two hours at the US border for the vet inspection.  We were preceded by several cattle trucks heading to slaughter, and the vet was training a new assistant who was very friendly, but not terribly efficient... When I said three horses, she looked at me like I had asked her how to land on Mars... and processed all the cattle trucks before me.  My revenge was eating all the chocolate she put out on the counter to appease us... it happened to be lunch on that particular day.

Five hours late at that point... I got to my stop in New York state in the dark.  I know the place, but it's on a very small windy country road and I missed the driveway... had to back the truck and trailer more than 500 meters because there is no spot to turn around.  Then, I was faced with a steep hill about 600 meters, snowed in... I put the truck in 4 wheel drive low and prayed we would not get stuck on the hill!  Yeah for the Cummins engine on my old Dodge, we got up there, all 10 tons climbed up the hill without even a skid - my truck is a locomotive!  My friends could not believe it, they were not too sure we would manage.  These are the days where I forgive my truck for being so expensive to keep going!

My two usual stops in Virginia were not able to take us in, too much snow and ice, so I had to find a place for the night while on they way.  Again, I was lucky and got referred to a fabulous facility who could take us, althought I had to sleep in my trailer in -11C weather, without water.  I was able to get heating, but it took several hours for the inside to thaw out and get warm - thank goodness for the winter sleeping bag and down filled boots I carry around for those types of situations.  With a wool hat and mitts on, I was still able to get a few hours of sleep.  No dinner that night, but the diner across the street prepared great breakfasts - the Pink Cadillac served eggs, bacon, fruit and unlimited coffee in a setting plastered with pictures of Elvis Presley!  The food was good and warm, it was heaven!

It's only once I got across the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, where it snowed, that the snow disappeared and I was able to remove my winter parka - still wearing my long underwear, wool hat, gloves and down vest.  -6C in Georgia, that's a record... Usually, this is when I change to a t-shirt and start looking for the air conditioning control.

Hey, once across the Florida stateline, we finally got over the freezing point!  +6C with a great big warm sun, I felt like it was summer, or almost!  My water started to thaw - thank you America for inventing the truck stop where I could find drinking water to water my horses on the way!

The horses are doing well and are very happy to find themselves in five acres of pasture after being cooped up for months in a small icy paddock and spending the last few weeks in stalls.  They ran, bucked, and gave us a great show of exuberance and excitement.  I enjoyed my first shower in four days with hot water (which was not working and I managed to fix), a hot meal and the satisfaction of being able to step out without my winter boots.  Our first night was rather cold (-7C), but the days have been warm and sunny!

I was left with two days to have the trailer repared (some pipes did not survive the -40 000 C weather...) and get organized.  I had to remove Menina's sutures, find hay and supplies and get my tack ready.  Here I am enjoying the view on this lovely property, the sun on my skin and the comforts of a proper trailer hookup!

Leaving the harsh winter behind and looking forward to a great month of training and learning with Linda Parelli!

VifArgent.com 3.0 is now LIVE!

After many months of thought, planning and effort, with some interruptions due to my travels and my teaching engagements, I am proud to present VifArgent.com 3.0!  This is the third iteration of my web site.  It has been redesigned on a brand new platform, which is much more flexible and efficient than the previous one!
Relaunching a site is a bit like renovating a house.  You think you can plan how long it it going to take and how much work it is going to be... but once you are in it, you realize that it will take a lot more work and you find all the things behind the walls that need to be fixed or redone!  Especially when it is a high content web site like VifArgent.com!

Here is a summary of the enhancements you will find:

A new look, modern, airy, elegant, crisp and a lot easier to read!  I am sure no one will miss the bright yellow fonts and moving marquee banners!  We were long overdue for a makeover!

Much improved navigation.  It will be much easier to find exactly what you are looking for.  We have put in place a new hierarchy of menus et completely redone the structure.  There is a lot of great content on this site and it was sometimes hard to get to it.  So we tore down the walls and redid everything!

A brand new toggle button between French and English pages, on EVERY page!

Easy to locate social media and email buttons so you can share any content with your friends in one click!

Easy to find buttons to find us and connect on social media!

Photos have been modified and improved, and you will find new pictures taken at recent events.

Mobile!  The site can now be viewed on smart phones, pads, and other mobile devices.  This was also long overdue.

The Resources section has been updated and new links have been added.

A new technology foundation which will allow us to grow the site much more readily and to add new functions such as video, a membership only section, etc.  This just could not be done in the old version.  This site will be much more flexible and dynamic!

VifArgent.com has long been a go-to place for French speaking Parelli student in Quebec, Canada and other parts of the world, and we will continue to fulfill this mandate as best we can.  Anglophones also find it a great place to access information otherwise hard to locate elsewhere.

You are invited to visit my new home and to send us your comments.  If you find something not working, please let us know; despite all our efforts to make sure everything was ready to go live, there is always the possibility that we might have missed something!

Naturally yours,

Geneviève Benoit  Click and find me!

Entrevue avec Ekuus, Partie 5 - Interview with Ekuus Part 5

This is the last part of the interview with Fondation Ekuus, an organisation here in Quebec using horse assisted therapy to help teenagers who suffered sexual abuse (Egala certified).

This week, we discussed the 7 Games, the resources and support available in Quebec to learn natural horsemanship and what it takes to learn to excel with horses.  We touched on the human qualities and attitude required to build a strong relationship with our equine partners.  Ultimately, it is up to the human to modify his behavior and approach to help the horse understand what we want and how to operate in Humanville.  Geneviève Benoit shares aspects of her personal development journey as she progresses in her horsemanship.
